Spring / Summer 2021

Usually, this would be the time of year we turn our attention towards what we should be wearing for the coming Spring/ Summer season. This year, however, it doesn’t seem like a priority. With very little known about what we’ll actually be allowed to do in Spring, the British Summer infamously unpredictable, and tropical Summer holidays still looking unlikely, the idea of spending money on gorgeous, but expensive, clothes for a season that we will more than likely not get to fully enjoy does not seem appealing.

But, that doesn’t mean we can’t dream. Fashion, after all is one of the best forms of escapism. Below is a list of some of the coolest looks from the SS21 shows, consider it window shopping from your sofa. You’re Welcome.

This gorgeous pinstripe dress is absolutely gorgeous. Styled simply here, with green sandals and gold jewellery. This dress could easily be transitioned for the winter months with knee high boots and a black leather trench coat. As for the black cut out dress on the right. Sexy Summer vibes. Enough said.

When you think of tulle you automatically think of Molly Goddard and that’s because the daring British designer is just so good with the stuff. These dreamy dresses with their full skirts make me want to run and dance through fields, but less Theresa May vibes and more Maria in the Sound of Music. Pastel colours featured in a lot of the SS21 collections and these sugary sweet shades are exactly the kind of pick me up we need this year.

This season Donatella treated us to a glorious underwater wonderland themed show, where the clothes were bright, loud and super fun. Looks ranged from oversized power blazers in neon pinks and blues worn over shorts to mini dresses (left) covered in shimmering sea shells and star fish that first appeared in Gianni Versace’s ‘trésor de la mer’ collection in 1992.

Pastel Princess

This pink ensemble on the left by Isabel Marant is giving me major Spring, cherry blossom vibes. Pastel shades of pink were a recurring theme on the SS21 catwalks, from Prada to Chanel to this Marant number. Pastels for spring may be predictable but they are also super cute and fun to style. Everything about this Valentino dress (on the right) is perfection. The delicate lavender shade, the sheer fabric that covers you in all the right places and the pretty ruffles that not only add decoration but also structure.

I am so in love with this Alexander McQueen dress on the left. The dusty pink shade of the dress is so feminine but when paired with the patent combat boots it’s given an unexpected edge. I think this Erdem dress would be difficult to wear to any event described as ‘casual’. It’s definitely a statement dress with a bold attitude, but maybe after a year of living in loungewear and only dressing from the waist up, that’s the attitude to dressing we should all be adopting.
